Tonsillectomy

 

A tonsillectomy is a surgery to remove the tonsils. The tonsils help protect against infections, but children with large tonsils may have many sore throats and ear infections. If your child has had multiple infections within a short time frame, your pediatrician may recommend a tonsillectomy. Most children go home several hours after the surgery. Children rarely stay overnight in the hospital.
